Arsenal of firearms seized in Pickering, Glenanna Road

Police have removed hundreds of firearms from a Pickering home after the owner was found deceased.

**UPDATE, MARCH 29, 2016** The family has decided not to destroy the firearms and will now be looking at other options, including a sale or auction.

On Monday, March 28, 2016, at approximately 1:00 p.m., police were called to a home on Glenanna Road to check on the well-being of an occupant who had not reported to work that day. Officers found a 72-year-old man, who was known to have previous medical issues, deceased in the home. His death is not considered suspicious.

During their response, officers noted a large number of firearms in the home and called in assistance from investigators. Next of kin provided consent to DRPS to seize and destroy all firearms found.

Approximately 500 guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition have been seized from the residence. The deceased had numerous firearms registered to him, and the guns were found properly stored and secured.

Police were still on scene as of Tuesday, March 29, 2016 to finish clearing out the home.
